GLASGOW'S newest cancer charity has been given a truck load of help.

The Malcolm Group has donated a curtain-sided trailer to help raise awareness for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

The 13.6m trailer can now be seen on the UK's roads, continuing work as part of Malcolm Logistics' fleet.

Travelling the length and breadth of the country for the next five years, the trailer will showcase the new Beatson Cancer Charity's branding.

The Malcolm Group donated the trailer as chief executive Andrew Malcolm has a close connection to the cause.

He said: "Having lost my own father to cancer some 11 years ago, and observing first-hand the treatment he received, it is a privilege to be associated with this excellent charity, and to be involved in helping beat this awful disease."

The Beatson West of Scot-land Cancer Centre is the UK's busiest cancer centre, and the new charity is aiming to provide funding in excess of £20 million in the next five years to help it battle the country's biggest killer.

The charity's vision is to ensure the Beatson is acknowledged as one of the world's leading cancer centres and to attract significant funding to further enhance the experience and wellbeing of current and former patients and their families, including the 8000 new patients who are treated at the Beatson every year.

David Welch, chief executive of the Beatson Cancer charity, said: "We are ext-remely grateful to the Malcolm Group for this special gift.

"The trailer is eye-catching and looks fantastic. It further enhances our vision which is to ensure the Beatson's rightful status as one of the world's leading hospitals fighting cancer."

The charity provides funding for enhanced patient and family support services and facilities, innovative medical equipment, novel research and additional staff training and development.

More than £800,000 a year is already committed to funding 19 specialist posts including nursing, radiography, physics and research-based staff.

Mr Welch added: "We are proud to work with the Malcolm Group and can't thank them enough for going that extra mile.

"This is a hugely exciting time for the new charity as it marks a significant step in the fight against cancer.

"The Beatson Cancer Charity is determined to do all that it can to help beat cancer."
