OFFICERS are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted in Renfrewshire.

The 32-year-old was on a night out on Main Street, Bridge of Weir when the attack happened at around 1.00am on Sunday.

Emergency crews took the man to the Royal Alexandra hospital in Paisley, where he received stitches for a serious head wound and treatment for facial injuries.

Detective Constable Neil Andrew of Renfrewshire CID said: " The injured male had been out with friends in pubs local to Bridge of Weir.

About 1.00 am or shortly thereafter in the early hours he became involved in a disturbance involving a group of people on the Main Street of Bridge of Weir near to 'Chillies' takeaway.

"He was attacked resulting in injuries to his head and face."

Police officers are examining CCTV footage and carrying out local enquiries but are asking for anyone with information to contact the Paisley CID on 101.
