THESE youngsters were flying high as they were shown how to fly a kite.

More than 500 pupils from Royston Primary and St Roch's Primary were invited to the event by the Kite Club of Scotland.

Seven volunteers from the club showed off huge, multi-coloured kites at the event in Glenconnor Park on Christopher Street in Royston.

Club members showed the pupils how to make their kites fly as high as possible, twist in the air and soar through the sky.

The event gave a bolt of colour to the grey skies above Royston.

As well as demonstrations from the professionals, primary pupils flew their own kites - some that they had made themselves.

The Kite Club of Scotland can often been seen at sites around the country, from West Sands Beach in St Andrews to Howden Park in Livingstone and Ayr Beach.

Friday's event in Royston was organised by Kite Club member Hugh O'Donnell who said the day had been a success.
