A GLASGOW restaurant has triumphed at this year's Scottish Curry Awards with a double award win.

Akbar's on Sauchiehall Street was named Restaurant of the Year and also walked away with the Best of Glasgow trophy at last night's ceremony at the Thistle Hotel.

Maitre D' of the Year was awarded to Abed Ullah from the Taj Mahal in Biggar, Lanarkshire.

Uzairs Tandoori in Motherwell was named the South West winner in the take-away of the year category and Mushtaq's Restaurant in Hamilton lifted the marketing campaign of the year award.

Yasmin Mahmood, Operations Director of event organisers Oceanic Consulting, said: "To be among such passionate people who love what they do is truly inspiring. The Scottish Curry Awards aims to recognise that dedication."
