A REHABILITATION centre for people with brain injuries has been ordered to improve its services following a snap inspection.

Murdoston Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre in Wishaw was given nine requirements and 11 recommendations by government inspectors - five requirments had not been met after a previous inspection.

They found staff at the independent hospital were not following the correct procedures when giving out controlled drugs to patients.

Inspectors also found that some patients who required checks every two hours were not being monitored closely enough.

The independent centre was rated good for quality of environment and staffing and adequate for care and support and management.

The report said patients were left to sit to watch and TV and walk around with very little interaction with staff.

The report states: "They (staff) no longer have time to do activities with the patients or to sit and talk with them.

"We saw that patients were left for long periods of the day with nothing to do but watch television or walk around the unit."
