TRIBUTES have been paid to a city lap-dancing club owner killed in a tragic accident while on his stag weekend.
Billy Peterkin, 59, who formerly ran the Seventh Heaven club next to Charing Cross station, was due to marry his fiancée Emma Gallagher on May 24.
He travelled to the Spanish resort of Puerto Banus, Marbella, with some friends but was killed early on Saturday morning when trying to get back to his hotel.
While attempting to cross a busy dual carriageway, the dad-of-one was hit by an oncoming car.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving calls from witnesses but could not save the Scot.
It is reported he was joined on the golfing break by a group of close, long-time friends including nightclub tycoon James Mortimer who owns the Rogano restaurant in the city centre.
Billy, from Glasgow, was known for his work in the licensed trade, which also included time running The Nile bar in West Nile Street.
A statement issued on behalf of his friends and family said they were "completely devastated".
Tributes poured in on social media site Twitter, including from chartered accountant Arnold Black, who wrote: "Shocked to hear about death of a former client Billy Peterkin, run over by a car in Spain."
Paul Waterson, chief executive of the Scottish Licensed Trade Association, wrote: "RIP Billy Peterkin - terrible tragedy."
Another by Douglas Timmins read: "Sad to hear my old pal Billy Peterkin was killed by a car in Spain while on his stag party yesterday.
"You were a one off Billy. RIP."
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We were made aware of the death of a British national in Spain on May 3. We are providing consular assistance."
