THOUSANDS of runners turned out to take part in the BUPA great Women's Scottish Run 10K.

More than 8000 women packed into Bellahouston Park for yesterday's run, which saw some of Scotland's running elite compete for first place.

The race was opened by Team GB athlete Eve Muirhead, who claimed Bronze for curling in Sochi earlier this year, and Clyde 1's Traffic and Travel presenter Cassi Gillespie.

Eva, who is originally from Perth, admitted the run is a departure from her comfort zone, but was a good experience

She said: "It went well, I really enjoyed it. It's a bit of a change, but when they asked me to do it I thought why not, I'll just go out there and enjoy myself.

"There was a great atmosphere. The pipers were playing at the markers for every kilometre, so every time I heard one I cheered a bit in my head."

Susan Partridge crossed the line in first position with a time of 33:53 as she prepares for this summer's Commonwealth Games. She was joined by teammates Hayley Harring and Elsepth Curran, who came second and third in times of 35:21. and 35:39.
