TEENAGE pop star Nicholas McDonald teamed up with cancer scientist Emma Shanks at a glittering fundraising dinner.

More than £70,000 was raised for Cancer Research UK at the black tie dinner at the Malcolm Group Heritage Centre in Linwood, Renfrewshire.

The bash saw X Factor finalist Nicholas sing for 370 guests.

Dr Shanks, head of screening at Cancer Research UK's Beatson Institute, spoke about the life-saving research.

She has been diagnosed with mouth cancer four times and has endured five operations - including one that saw part of her tongue replaced with a skin graft from her forearm.

The research scientist was a VIP guest at the fundraiser on Saturday, organised by Nicola Robertson, granddaughter of Malcolm group founder Donald Malcolm, who died in 2003 after a long battle with mouth cancer.
