A MAN who fell on hard times after being involved in a car accident printed £6000 of counterfeit money at his home, a court has heard.

Alexander Pacteau was snared by police who were given information that he may be involved in a scam.

They searched his Drumchapel flat where they found "equipment consistent" with making fake money.

Pacteau - who was in a coma for weeks and unable to walk for six months after the accident - was too embarrassed to tell his family that he was on disability benefits and that money was tight so he resorted to printing money, the court was told.

The 20-year-old pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to printing £20 Royal Bank of Scotland notes that were intended to be passed off as genuine on March 1, 2014.

The court heard Pacteau regrets his actions.

Sheriff Sam Cathcart deferred sentence and continued bail.
