POLICE say they are pursuing a definite line of enquiry into the violent murder of a man in Yoker.

As revealed in later editions of yesterday's Evening Times, the man has been named as 52-year-old Kenneth McNeil.

He was killed on Thursday after an intruder forced his way into a third-floor flat on Dumbarton Road before attacking him.

Police think Mr McNeill was visiting the homeowner when the man broke into the property.

Local residents were left shaken and horrified after the incident.

One woman reported hearing a woman screaming and a dog barking, before looking out of her window to see police and paramedics crowding the street.

The alarm was raised shortly before 1am on Thursday when officers were called to reports of a disturbance.

Mr McNeill died at the scene, despite attempts by emergency crews to save him.

Speaking yesterday, Detective Chief Inspector Jim Smith said: "Although a post-mortem examination will be carried out, we are treating his death as murder.

"It is not clear what the motive was but it was not a random act. It would appear that the victim was the intended target, however at this time it is unclear why.

"I would appeal to anyone who was at or near the flats late on Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, and heard a disturbance or saw the suspect either arriving or leaving the scene, to get in touch."
