Scotland striker James McFadden is ready for the new football season after getting a hair transplant.

The 31-year-old, known as Faddy to his fans, had around 2000 strands of hair implanted one-by-one into his scalp during a gruelling procedure at specialist centre The Glasgow Clinic.

He announced that he was getting the procedure to the rest of his Motherwell teammates after their victory over Aberdeen last week.

The former Everton player and father-of-four shot to fame after scoring a wonder goal during Scotland's 1-0 victory over France in 2007.

His goalscoring boots were donated to the Scottish Football Museum after the Evening Times approached his father James and made the suggestion.

James said: "You get stick and a bit of banter for having no hair so you might as well get stick for having some.

"I told the boys in the team on Sunday that I was getting it done and they were fine about it.

"I think these things are out in the open now and more accepted.

"It's the same with anything - you just take it, it doesn't bother me at all.

"I wouldn't hide it - not that you can hide it."

The procedure, called Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) can also be used in beard reconstruction and on eyebrows.
