EVEN more eyes are to turn to Glasgow with the launch of a new television channel dedicated to the city.

And it could be seen by more than six million people worldwide each month.

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB) has announced the launch of a People Make Glasgow channel with the help of VisitBritain TV.

It will show a series of videos featuring the best Glasgow has to offer. Tourism bosses hope the move will encourage more visitors to the city.

City council leader Councillor Gordon Matheson, chairman of GCMB, said: "The new People Make Glasgow channel will give visitors from all over the world a taste of what the city has to offer as it enjoys its biggest year yet.

"We are delighted to be working with VisitBritain TV to promote Glasgow to its huge international following throughout 2014 and beyond.

"The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is presenting the city with an unprecedented opportunity to showcase Glasgow's sporting, cultural and major events credentials to a global audience, reinforcing the city's position as a must-visit destination."

The dedicated channel takes its name from the city's award-winning brand, People Make Glasgow. The films on the channel will be promoted internationally via VisitBritain TV's online global tourism network.

The site - developed, hosted and managed by Geocast TV - gets six million unique users each month from 215 countries and is particularly popular with visitors in the USA, Canada, Australia, China, Germany, France and India.

The films include a snapshot of the 2014 Commonwealth Games preparations and show Glasgow's wealth of cultural attractions, world-class architecture and design, shopping and events and festivals.

Mr Matheson added: "One of the visions of the Commonwealth Games is to leave a lasting legacy for the city, with a specific strand dedicated to creating the legacy of a more international Glasgow.

"The new People Make Glasgow channel fulfils this vision by strengthening Glasgow's worldwide reputation."

Joss Croft, Marketing Director at VisitBritain, said: "With the 2014 Commonwealth Games putting Glasgow in the global spotlight, it's important that we give potential visitors easy access to inspirational, informative content about the city and surrounding area.

"Glasgow is consistently one of Britain's top ten most visited cities by overseas tourists and these films will show people why."
