A NURSE is facing charges she referred to an elderly resident as a "n****r" while working at an elderly care home.

Rachel Buckland is facing five charges of misconduct while employed at Berelands House Care Home in Prestwick, Ayr.

She is alleged to have said, "Me white, her n****r" or words to that effect with reference to and/or in the presence of Resident A.

The home, run by Amore Care, offers residential, nursing and dementia care for the elderly.

The nurse is also accused of a catalogue of care failures including talking breaks when she was required to check on residents and leaving a medication trolley unnattended on one or more occasions.

The incidents are said to have happened between June 2010 and June 2012.

A spokeswoman for the home said it would issue a statement after the case was concluded.
