A MOTORIST is in hospital today after being stabbed by a gang in a brutal murder bid.

The 31-year-old was was viciously attacked and left for dead in a city street.

Police said he was driving his black Vauxhall Corsa along Spiershall Terrace, Yoker, when he was targeted.

The gang of youths stabbed him and also vandalised his car.

It happened at around 2.05am on Sunday.

The gang ran off, leaving their victim bleeding in the middle of the road.

A concerned member of the public raised the alarm and dialled 999.

Police said the victim was rushed to the Western Infirmary, where he is still receiving treatment.

Hospital staff today described his condition as "serious".

It is understood detectives are still waiting to interview the man, but have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

A large police operation was underway at the scene yesterday.

Police said there was currently no description of the suspects available.

Detective Inspector Ian Hylands, from Drumchapel CID, is leading the investigation.

He said: "At this time we do not know why the man, who is not local to the area, was in Yoker or why he was targeted by youths and subjected to such a violent attack.

"As well as carrying out local enquiries, we are checking CCTV in the area to try to identify those involved.

"But would also appeal to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to come forward.

"Spiershall Terrace is a residential area and I am sure that people would have heard this disturbance - the noise would have been unusual for that time of night."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
