CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save Milngavie's only Roman Catholic school from closure are taking their campaign to the Scottish Parliament.

Parents from St Joseph's Primary plan to visit Edinburgh today to hand over personally a 30,000 word dossier asking the Scottish Government to 'call-in' for recon-sideration the local council's decision to close the school.

The submission from St Joseph's Parent Council argues that East Dunbartonshire Council's proposal to end 140 years of Catholic education in Milngavie is discriminatory and should be overturned by ministers.

Laureen McIntyre, chairwoman of St Joseph's Parent Council, said: "We are taking our campaign to Scotland's capital because we want to tell MSPs personally how important our school is to our community."

East Dunbartonshire say the proposal to build a new school in nearby Bearsden will provide a "more efficient and effective service" for children in the area.
