FAMILY and friends of a woman killed in a tragic rally crash will tomorrow say their final farewells.

Betty Allan, 63, was killed, along with two other spectators, during the Jim Clark Rally in the Borders, when one of the cars veered off the road and ploughed into them.

Her partner Iain Provan, 64, from Barrhead in East Renfrewshire, was also killed in the accident.

Relatives are holding a funeral service for their "beloved daughter and loving sister" at Craigton Crematorium tomorrow afternoon.

The family of Mrs Allan paid tribute to her.

In a statement, they said: "Betty was a caring and loving daughter, sister, auntie and great aunt and will be missed immensely."

Meanwhile, mourners will pay their final respects to third rally tragedy victim Len Stern today.

Family and friends of the 71-year-old, from Bearsden, will attend Clydebank Crematorium. Camper van enthusiast Mr Stern's hearse is expected to be followed by a convoy of vintage vehicles.

In a statement, Mr Stern's family said: "Len was a special uncle who was well-loved by the family. His death is tragic but he died watching the sport he loved."

A fourth spectator struck by the car was left fighting for his life.

Concerns were later raised that the "dangerous" road where the group were hit was previously closed off to the public over safety fears.

Mr Provan's relatives also released a tribute to him.

In a statement, they said: "The family would like to thank race officials, members of the public and the emergency services for their assistance following the tragic incident.

"We would also like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts."

All three died in the second of two crashes at the Jim Clark Rally on the same day.

Investigations are still continuing into the accident which happened when a car came off the track. Earlier, police appealed for spectators to submit video footage or any other information that may help them determine what happened.

Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill announced the Scottish Government will also commission a review of motor sport event safety in light of the tragedy.

n A woman whose mother was killed at a car rally in the Highlands a year ago has called for fatal accident inquiries into both tragedies. Kerry Johnson's mother Joy Robson was killed at the Snowman Rally in the Highlands.
