THE Principal of the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), has received an international award for 'Outstanding Service to Higher Education'.

Professor Craig Mahoney was presented with the award from the International Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association in Anchorage, Alaska, USA.

Professor Mahoney, who is also the university's Vice-Chancellor, has had a distinguished career in academia and has published widely in the areas of children's fitness, health, sport, exercise, performance and education.

He said: "I am truly honoured and humbled to have been given the 2014 HETL award for Outstanding Service to Higher Education.

"It is hugely pleasing to be recognised in this way from such an important international organisation."
