SPORTS fans attending Commonwealth Games events are being urged to plan their journeys well in advance.

With up to one million additional visitors packing into the city during Games, people are being urged to walk, cycle or use public transport to attend the events.

Detailed information on public transport, along with walking and cycling routes to stadiums, is now available on the Glasgow 2014 webpage.

It includes details of spectator shuttle bus services, which will run from Buchanan Bus Station to key venues.

These are in addition to regular bus services and both will be free for people with Games tickets travelling to venues on the day they are attending events.

A spectator journey planner app is also available via the Glasgow 2014 website to help people plan in advance how to travel to and from Games events.

More than 1000 additional cycle parking spaces have been installed at Games venues and spectators will find clearly signposted cycle parking.

There will be no car parking near venues, with the exception of pre-booked wheelchair user and blue badge parking.

Dedicated spectator park-and-ride sites will be in operation, which must be booked in advance for the Opening Ceremony at Celtic Park, mountain bike trial at Cathkin Braes, track and field events and Closing Ceremony at Hampden, rugby sevens at Ibrox and the triathlon at Strathclyde Country Park.

Brian Devlin, the city council's director of land and environment, said: "While the venues will be familiar to fans, the best way to reach them will probably be different during the Games.

"Even if you know the city like the back of your hand, now is the time to check out the website, download the app and plan ahead."
