John Docherty was today convicted of murdering Elaine Doyle after hiding his guilt for almost 30 years.
The Doyle family's 28 year wait for justice finally came to an end today as the guilty verdict was returned.
A jury at the High Court in Edinburgh took just hours to convict the former soldier, 49, of the horrific murder of the 16-year-old in 1986.
The 15 jurors returned a guilty verdict shortly after 4pm in a trial which lasted more than 50 days.
