GLASGOW schoolchildren got together to learn about the Commonwealth.

More than 100 pupils, aged five to 17 from Calderglen High, Carmunnock Primary, St Albert's Primary, St Anne Primary, St Primary School and St Thomas Aquinas Secondary took part, while Scotland-based young journalists from the Future News programme reported on the day.

Commonwealth Class is a collaboration between the BBC, the British Council and the Commonwealth Secretariat.

It aims to connect young people from across the Commonwealth, and helps them to share their experiences and learn about Commonwealth values ahead of the Games in Glasgow this summer.

More than 100,000 schools, 300,000 teachers and 17 million young people across the Commonwealth will use themed learning resources to take part in BBC online debates, competitions and work on collaborative projects.

Schools can sign up to the scheme at www.bbc.co.uk/commonwealthclass and find out more about lesson plans and the online debates.

June Watters, depute head teacher at Calderglen High School, said: "Participating in the various opportunities offered through Commonwealth Class has provided an enriching educational experience."
