A MAN has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of  a young woman near a college campus.

The alleged attack happened on a street outside West College Scotland in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, at around 9.50pm on Saturday night.

Police said a 22-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident and was being held in custody.

He is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court today

It was the sixth alleged rape incident in the West of Scotland in the past two months.

On Saturday, an Evening Times investigation revealed that rapes in Glasgow had almost halved in the last year despite the recent spate of sex attacks.

On May 12, a 33-year-old woman was gang-raped by three Asian men in their 20s in Toryglen.

Three days later, two predators raped a 24-year-old woman in Dixon Road in Govanhill.

On May 30, a 35-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Kelvingrove Park.

A woman aged 37, was raped in Giffnock on June 1. And in the early hours of June 8, a 24-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Brunswick Street in Merchant City.
