POLLOK Country Park has been voted one of the best visitor attract-ions in the world.

TripAdvisor has presented the Glasgow green space with one of its Certificate of Excellence awards, which are given to attractions the tourism website rates to be in the top 10% worldwide.

Winners range from one- room bed and breakfasts to 6000 room hotels, from bakers to Michelin star rest-aurants, hidden attractions to world renowned parks and museums.

To qualify for a Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of at least four out of five stars in website reviews.

Alistair Watson, Glasgow City Council's land and environment spokesman, said: "Winning the Trip-Advisor Certificate of Excellence is a real source of pride for the entire team at Pollok Country Park.

"I'd like to thank both the staff for the hard work and also all of our visitors who took the time to complete a review on TripAdvisor.

"There is no greater seal of approval than being recognised by the many people who enjoy the park.

"This accolade is a remarkable vote of confidence in the park and our continued commitment to delivering a great family day out for visitors."

Marc Charron, president of TripAdvisor for business said the award honours exceptional hospitality businesses for consistent excellence.

He added: "The award gives top performing establishments around the world the recognition they deserve based on feedback from those who matter most - their customers."

Pollok Park was originally part of an estate that was home to the Maxwell family for more than 700 years.

Anne Maxwell Macdonald gifted it to Glasgow Corpor-ation in 1966, with the condition it was to be a public park. It includes the Burrell Collection of antiques and art works which shipping magnate William Burrell donated to the city on his death.
