SHE doesn't know it, but this inquisitive deer may have sparked 'much a doe about nothing.'

Locals say the animal has been trapped in a police compound for several weeks and have called for it to be freed.

But the Scottish SPCA say they have no concerns about the dear and that it, "comes and goes as it pleases".

The animal is said to be behind a seven-foot metal fence which borders land at Aikenhead Road police station in Glasgow's South Side.

Local resident Graham Macdonald said: "It has been in there for four weeks and you can see it's distressed. The ground is scuffed and marked where it has been trying to get out. The area is far too small for such a large animal.

"The local children have nicknamed it 'Heidi', because it hides, but some of the older people are calling it William Wallace because it wants its freedom."

But Scottish SPCA Animal Rescue Officer Caitlin Houston said the charity has "no welfare concerns for this animal" because it has grass to feed on.

She added: "It's our understanding that the padlocked gate, which was preventing the deer from leaving, is being left open to allow it to come and go as it pleases."

Superintendent Carol McGuire of Police Scotland said: she is "aware" of the deer.

She added: "The animal does not appear to be in any distress and we have not received any complaint."
