SUN seekers should make the most of the hot weather while it lasts as forecasters claim rain is set to return.

This week has seen Glasgow bask in above average temperatures --but rain is predicted for the weekend.

Today will see the last of the soaring heat as the mercury prepares to plummet tomorrow.

The prediction comes as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service warned that warmer weather can create fire risks.

Director of Prevention and Protection, ACO Lewis Ramsay, said: "Whatever you are doing this summer, I'd urge you to visit our website and make sure that you can enjoy a fire free summer."

Laura Caldwell, a forecaster with Meteogroup, the weather arm of the Press Association, said Saturday will see a return to gloomy conditions.

She said: "I'm afraid the good weather is not going to last. The temperature will be back down in the teens and there will be rain showers for most of the day."

Yesterday saw a high of 22C and today should be a little hotter, with forecasters predicting a high of 23C.

Parks across Glasgow should be packed with sunbathers as today's sunshine will be relentless.

In the evening the temperature will begin to drop before being back down to the high teens by Saturday morning.

Rain showers will persist through Saturday.

Sunday will perk up a little bit before a return to gloomy weather throughout next week.

Ms Caldwell added: "There's a few low pressure storms coming through so we can expect to see more rain with the odd dry interlude here and there."

Meanwhile, Scottish Water is reminding people to play it safe in or near rivers, reservoirs and lochs following the death of a 14-year-old boy at a reservoir near Edinburgh earlier this week.

Bosses are advising people not to take risks around watercourses and calling on children in particular to take care near water during the summer holidays.
