A LORRY driver died in a three vehicle crash in Lanarkshire.

The accident happened on the A70 at Carstairs on Wednesday at 1.30pm.

A red Mercedes lorry was in collision with another lorry, travelling west, and a Vauxhall Insignia car, travelling east.

The 45-year-old driver of the Mercedes lorry died at the scene. The 47-year-old car driver was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he received treatment for a collar bone injury.

The 57-year-old male driver of the other lorry was treated at the scene. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Sergeant Alison McAuley, at Road Policing in Motherwell, said: "Although we have spoken to some people who were in the area, I would ask anyone who was travelling on that stretch of road after 1pm on Wednesday and saw any of the vehicles or the collision to come forward."

Anyone with information should contact Road Policing at Motherwell on the non emergency telephone number 101.
