A GERMAN micro- brewery is sampling the sweet taste of success and opening a new bar in Glasgow's West End.

West, a micro-brewery, Bavarian-style bar and restaurant in the former Templeton's carpet factory in Glasgow Green, is opening a pop-up bar - Pop Up West - in the former Halt bar, in Woodlands Road.

West owner Petra Wetzel, who opened West in 2006, lived near the bar as a student.

She said: "It is a wonderful twist of fate to end up back on my old doorstep.

"We have received the keys for the premises and are eagerly awaiting planning permission."

Petra, 39, said the site had been home to a bar, in one form or another, for more than 100 years.

She said they had set aside a significant budget and were in talks with designers to "bring the bar back with a bang".

In the meantime, it will open as a pop-up unit from 4pm Friday. She said: "We would like everyone to come along and the team will explain what we have planned."

She said the bar would serve the first keg of West Woodlands Road, which is matured Munich lager in a Skallywag whisky cask.

She said: "We have fallen in love with maturing our beers in casks."
