MORE than 1200 jobs have been lost at one of the UK's largest car parts suppliers after the firm went into administration.
Unipart Automotive, which has branches in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, had been experiencing years of "financial stress", it said.
Eleven staff were made redundant at the city branch, while another 13 posts went at Ayr, Hamilton and Kilmarnock.
Mark Orton, partner at KPMG and joint administrator, said: "Despite intensive efforts, a sale of the whole Unipart Automotive business could not be reached.
"A buyer could only be found for 33 of the sites on a going concern basis. The level of cash and operational restructuring required to rescue a more substantial part of the business posed too much risk for most interested parties."
