THERE'S no shame in coming off second best in a race against the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt.

But for one Glasgow civic dignitary who fancied his chances against a virtual Bolt second place came with a dislocated shoulder.

Bailie Phil Greene, 70, decided to take on Usain Bolt on the Virgin Media interactive race track, which has been set up on Glasgow Green during the Games.

The 30m track allows members of the public to go head to head with a life-size Bolt racing across a three-metre-tall video screen.

But after what colleagues said was a decent start, the SNP councillor slipped and injured himself, ending up what is understood to be a dislocated shoulder.

Mr Greene, accompanying Glasgow Lord Provost Sadie Docherty at the public events on Glasgow Green, was taken by the civic car to hospital, leaving the Lord Provost to take a taxi home.

One colleague said: "The poor guy's legs gave way and he fell off the stage. But as you'd expect, he's wearing it as a badge of honour."

Mr Greene was unavailable for comment.
