After 11 days of Commonwealth Games sporting action, the closing ceremony will bring Glasgow 2014 to an end tonight with pop superstar Kylie Minogue topping the bill.

The show, called All Back To Ours, is described as reflecting a typical night out in the Scottish city.

It is being held at Hampden Park, where the athletics competitions have been taking place, and will also feature around 2,000 volunteer performers lining up alongside Scottish favourites Lulu, Deacon Blue and Dougie Maclean.

David Zolkwer, head of ceremonies and artistic director, said: "The show has been inspired by the simple idea of a great night out in Glasgow - a typical Saturday night with friends coming together for a night on the town.

"We'll see friends coming together, there'll be a bit of a chase before couples find each other, there'll be the seductive lure of the slosh performed by the women of the cast and there'll be some old school romance in the form of a mass cast smooch.

"There will even be a moment when around 1,000 people will create a homage to the iconic scene from Bill Forsyth's 1981 film Gregory's Girl where the young would-be lovers lie on their backs and dance to the sky.

"It's going to be an emotional show - a celebration of a job well done, bitter sweet, proud, inclusive, utterly and uniquely Glaswegian but still typically outward looking, generous in spirit and profoundly human. Above all it'll be a great party."

Scotland's lawn bowls double gold medallist Alex Marshall will lead the host nation out as flag bearer - a role he described as a "dream come true".

The 47 year old doubled his personal Commonwealth Games gold medal tally to four - equalling a record held by Allan Wells - after winning all 14 games he played during the Kelvingrove competitions.

He said: "This is my fifth Commonwealth Games and it's the best ever for Scotland and me, and the icing on the cake came when I was told I was going to be carrying the flag in the closing ceremony and lead out 310 great Scottish athletes.

"It's a dream come true for myself, it'll be one of the biggest things in my career and I'm just so looking forward to it."

The ceremony, which will be broadcast live, will feature 160 tonnes of staging, more than 3,000 props and 454 flags.

The line-up also includes Glasgow synthpop band Prides.

Dr Bridget McConnell, Glasgow 2014 board member and chief executive of Glasgow Life, said: "The people of Glasgow haven't just engaged with these Games, they have owned the Games. They are the heart of these Games. It is their generosity and spirit and the hospitality of this city that have been at the forefront.

"This ceremony will be great fun and emotional for everyone in Glasgow and Scotland. We want to recognise everyone involved from the athletes and spectators to the city's workers and volunteers and they will all be represented tomorrow night. Everyone will dance and sing and, boy, are they ready to party on Sunday."
