GLASGOW Airport recorded its busiest July in six years.
New figures out Monday reveal the west coast hub handled more than 840,000 passengers - and thousands of them were Commonwealth Games competitors and officials who had jetted to the city from around the world.
July also saw a number of airlines making significant announcements such as Virgin Atlantic confirming plans to introduce direct flights to Las Vegas next summer when easyJet also intends to lay on extra flights to the Africa city of Marrrakech. Irish budget carrier Ryanair also announced it will fly out of Glasgow for the first time later this year.
Airport boss Amanda McMillan said: "To have recorded our busiest July in six years was extremely pleasing but it was a memorable month for so many reasons. From a route development perspective, we made a number of significant announcements, none more so than the news Ryanair will join us in October."
