A DAREDEVIL teenager is preparing to take to the skies for the first time - strapped to the top of a biplane.

Stephanie Bain, 19, who has never flown before, is taking part in a wing walking display to raise awareness for Help for Heroes, the charity which helps wounded and injured servicemen and women.

She said: "I am very excited my first time in the air will be on the outside of the plane. Most people would find that daunting but I am thrilled by the idea."

Stephanie and 16 other brave individuals will join Renfrewshire Provost Anne Hall on a series of wing- waling flights.

The teenager said: "Last year I drew up a bucket list of everything I wanted to do so, when I saw Provost Hall was looking for volunteers to join her on a wing-walk, I knew I had to do it.

"I'm really passionate-about charity and I am keen to show my support for Help for Heroes.

"It is particularly important to me as I have a few friends in the army and if anything should happen to them, I'm glad Help for Heroes will be there to give them the support they will need."

Stephanie and the others will take to the air between Wednesday August 20 and Thursday August 21.

Last week, Renfrewshire Council honoured current members of the armed forces at the same time as commemorating those who fought in the First World War.

A special service was held last Monday at St Mirin's Cathedral, between 10.15pm and 11pm, the exact time Britain declared war on Germany 100 years ago.
