THEY travelled thousands of miles to take part in the world's biggest piping festival in Glasgow.

And Neil Campbell and Amelia Chandra, of Canberra Burns Club Pipe Band, Australia, were full of smiles as they entertained the crowds in Candleriggs.

The musicians were just two of many to be out in force yesterday at different locations across the city.

Pipers from Macedonia, France, New Zealand, Austria, Ireland, as well as Scotland, gathered at the events.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend Piping Live! this week as well as the World Pipe Band Championships.

Now in its 11th year, around 222,700 people have attended events so far.

A Piping Live! spokeswoman said: "Friday is one of the most exciting days of Piping Live! with the Pipe Idol final taking place. At our Friday night folk concert on at the Art School, there's still limited tickets available at pipinglive.co.uk if music fans want to grab a piece of the action.

"Tommorrow will see The World Pipe Band Championships take place which is a great family day out and the After Worlds Shindig with Skipinnish is worth getting a ticket for if you're up for keeping the party going."

Organisers are also inviting people to come to the National Piping Centre on Sunday for their 'survivor session'.
