UNSUNG heroes have the chance to watch the world's top golfers in action when Scotland plays host to the Ryder Cup.

The Evening Times is giving away six pairs of tickets the great sports event which sees Europe and America do battle over the lush greens of Gleneagles.

We've teamed up with the Scottish Government's Legacy Ticket scheme to reward people who work in communities across Glasgow to give them the recognition they deserve.

All we ask is that readers send us their nominations and in just one sentence explain why the person they know should be given two tickets to see a day's action at next month's Ryder Cup.

The person nominated doesn't need to be involved in golf or even sports.

They could be friends or neighbours who donate their time to a local good cause such as helping the elderly or maybe a parent who helps run a club for kids after school.

First Minister Alex Salmond said: "The Scottish Government is delighted to work with the Evening Times as we encourage you to identify and nominate someone in your community who you feel deserves to experience the Ryder Cup first hand."

It is a golden opportunity for six local heroes to watch world golf idols up close in an international competition which stretches back almost a century.

A further 3000 tickets, which will be sold on a first come first served basis, were released yesterday.

In June, 1921, a warm up match was played at Gleneagles just before the British Open was held.

A dozen Americans played 12 British golfers in the game.

This year's Ryder Cup tees off on Friday, September 26, with the final match day just two days later.

Readers must e-mail their name, day time contact telephone number as well as the identity of the person they wish to nominate with a one sentence explanation to: great.giveaways@ heraldandtimes.co.uk.

Terms and conditions: Ticket admits two. Usual Evening Times rules apply. All entries must be received by Tuesday August 26, at noon.
