Sick Kids' video is online hit

The film shows happy children, parents, and staff from the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill singing and dancing to The Proclaimers hit I'm On My Way. The video made to celebrate 100 years of caring for youngsters has already received massive support.

And it got a big thumbs up from The Proclaimers brothers Craig and Charlie Reid, who said it was "beautiful".

They said: "We are proud to have our music associated with The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow."

The feel-good video was the brainchild of Jen Rogers, 38, lead nurse for paediatrics at the hospital. She is the Scottish Nurse of the Year and pregnant with twins but she still put all her energy into making it happen.

Jen said: "We wanted to do something different to celebrate 100 years of health services on the Yorkhill site as we look forward to moving to new children's hospital on the New South Glasgow Hospitals campus next year.

"We've been overwhelmed by the response with so many people viewing it and telling us how much they like it.

"I was keen to make sure it was a happy video and you can see everyone loved it and put their hearts and souls into it. We wanted to make sure everyone was included.

"We had doctors, nurses, managers, auxiliary staff, porters, students, and obviously we couldn't have done it without the children and their parents.

"The filming was so much fun, everyone was smiling all day and the kids had a brilliant time. For many it was a great distraction from gruelling treatments."

One of the stars of the video is Kaitlin Taylor, 11, from Glasgow's East End, who told her amazing story in the Evening Times earlier this week about how her wish for a new kidney came true after she wrote to Santa.

The video - funded by the Scottish Government - was first shown at a recent NHS Scotland conference at the SECC in Glasgow.

Jason Leitch, Scottish Government quality unit clinical director, said: "This is a really inspiring, heart-warming video."
