A DECISION on the preferred bidder for collapsed Clyde shipbuilder Fergusons is expected to be made today.
Engineering tycoon Jim McColl is tipped as the frontrunner. Four potential buyers had lodged an interest in the Port Glasgow yard.
Bosses at ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne said they would do everything they could to support the rescue of the last commercial shipbuilder on the Clyde.
A spokesman for CalMac said: "As you would expect, David MacBrayne Ltd (parent company of CalMac)is constantly looking at opportunities to grow its capability and capacity in the maritime sector, and would be interested in working with other organisations to do this."
