KILLER mum Rosdeep Adekoya was today sentenced to 11 years in prison for beating her three-year-old son to death.

Adekoya killed little Mikaeel Kular, inflicting more than 40 separate injuries, and stuffed his body in a suitcase.

The 34-year-old, wearing glasses, black cardigan, pink trousers, was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh today.

Adekoya sparked one of Scotland's biggest missing person inquiries, when she said Mikaeel had vanished from the family home in January.

Hundreds of members of the public turned out to search for the boy.

Chilling details of what really happened to the toddler emerged, when the mother-of-five pleaded guilty to culpable homicide in July.

She admitted repeatedly punching her son and causing his body to hit against a hard object, inflicting blunt injuries on his head and body between January 12 and 15.

Adekoya "beat him heavily" on his back as he lay over the bath edge on the Sunday and assaulted him again on Monday.

He died from his injuries during the night on Wednesday.

She also admitted wrapping Mikaeel's body in a duvet cover, putting it in a suitcase and driving to Kirkcaldy, where she hid the case under a bush in woods.

Adekoya trawled the web for advice on why she was unable to love Mikaeel, her internet history showed searches including, "Why am I so aggressive with my son" and "Get rid of bruises".

Adekoya has reportedly been moved to a "special unit" at Cornton Vale jail in Stirling "for her own safety".

It is understood she has been threatened by other inmates.
