A NEW campaign aimed at getting more people in Glasgow to take regular exercise has been launched.

Glasgow Life's Good Move programme will raise the profile of six activities and classes including jogging and walking.

The Evening Times Active 2014 is also working with Glasgow Life, sportscotland and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to improve the health of Glaswegians in the year of the Commonwealth games and build a lasting legacy of physical wellbeing.

Glasgow City Council leader Gordon Matheson got in on the act and joined runners at the launch of the new Good Move campaign.

He said: "This project offers people who find it hardest to build exercise into their daily lives a one stop process to find classes and programmes which suit their age, their fitness, their health and their location.

"Providing easy access to programmes gives us the opportunity to give everyone the chance of a healthier, happier lifestyle and provide Glasgow with a lasting legacy of the Commonwealth Games.

"From guided walks to programmes for people with specific health issues, "Good Move" will help find the right classes to suit every need."

The Good Move campaign will raise awareness of these classes and activities through television, radio and outdoor advertising as well as sales promotion partnerships with businesses and community organisations and church groups.

The activities include revitalise, vitality, move more, jogging, walking and live active.

One of the women who took part in the launch was Elizabeth, 47, diagnosed with cancer in 2010 on the same day she broke her neck in a car accident.

She attended move more and live active sessions as part of her recovery and has since run two marathons and cycled from Glasgow to Edinburgh twice.

Elizabeth said: "Exercise is part of my life and for those not so keen on it are missing out on the health, physical, social and psychological benefits."
