THOUSANDS of people have already joined us in helping build a better Glasgow.

And now there is an opportunity to be part of Streets Ahead which is back for a fourth, fantastic year.

The award-winning initiative, which has helped transform communities in every corner of the city, promises to be even bigger and better as the next 12 months get under way.

Our high-profile partners - Clean Glasgow, City Charitable Trust, Glasgow Housing Association, ScotRail and Scottish Fire and Rescue- are all back on board. And we need you to get involved too.

The idea is simple.

One person making a difference can change a street for the better - and one person on every street can transform a whole city.

It could be working with neighbours to transform empty land into a community garden; helping local schools to run regular litter-picks; planting hanging baskets to brighten up a main street; or organising street parties for local children or elderly people.

Perhaps you are already working hard in your community, or have a plan you don't know how to put into action.

Streets Ahead can support existing projects - or kick-start new ones. We can help with funding, equipment and advice.

And we can tell everyone about it, ensuring that the good work you are doing in your community inspires the rest of the city.

We are creating a network of Street Champions, those individuals who go the extra mile to make life better for everyone.

The last three years of Streets Ahead have been a huge success, with individuals and groups from all over Glasgow getting involved.

Thousands of pounds of Streets Ahead grants have been paid to help turn your ideas into reality.

And our annual awards ceremony at the Winter Gardens in the People's Palace, has helped us to pay tribute to everyone doing their bit for Glasgow.

Evening Times editor Tony Carlin is delighted to welcome back Streets Ahead, saying: "Streets Ahead has achieved so much in its first three years and we want the coming campaign to be bigger and better than ever.

"We want to provide communities with the help and support needed to improve the areas in which they live, work and play and help the army of Street Champions who work tirelessly to make Glasgow a better place for all.

He added: "In past years we have backed community gardens and artworks, organised clean-ups, planted vegetable gardens and more. But we want to help with any activity which creates better communities.

"So whether you want to arrange shopping deliveries for local pensioners or create a mural on an eyesore wall, we want to help."
