BOMB disposals teams have been sent to an industrial estate in Kilmarnock.
The alarm was raised shortly after 3pm, following reports of an unexploded device, believed to be a grenade, at the Loreny Industrial Estate.
As a precaution, a number of workers in businesses nearby were asked to remain inside.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "At 3pm today, police responded to a report of unexploded ordinance at Loreng Industrial Estate in Kilmarnock.
"An explosive ordinance disposal team is at the scene with the support of Scottish Fire and Rescue and Police Scotland.
"Enquiries are continuing."
