INDEPENDENCE campaigners are planning to host a rally to mark the anniversary of the referendum.

Hope Over Fear, the pro-independence group linked to Tommy Sheridan, is understood to be planning the event in George Square on September 19.

Organisers said the event will "make a clear statement that our journey to full Independence for our nation continues" and are calling for a new referendum in 2018.

Writing on the event's Facebook page, organisers said: "Our First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has stated clearly that it will be the people of Scotland who will determine if and when there is an #indyref2.

"Lets fill Freedom Square and the surrounding streets of Glasgow on September 19th to make our voices heard.

"2018 is an ideal year for #indyref2 as it is clear in terms of elections north and south of the border.

"Join us on the Square with the message "WE'RE GONNAE DAE IT ANYWAY 2018"

So far, around 1400 people have signed up to attend the rally, and a separate petition has started calling for music legends The Proclaimers to back their cause.

The petition, launched this morning, calls for the Scots singing duo to join the rally. It has already backing from 96 supporters.
