A MAN is being treated in hospital after falling 30ft from a cliff on to a river bank.

The 34-year-old, who has not been named, suffered the fall in Busby Glen Park in East Renfrewshire and had to be rescued by a specialist rope team from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).

Firefighters were called to the scene at White Cart Water just before 3pm on Sunday.

A SFRS spokesman said: "Crews from Polmadie fire station with skills in water rescue were immediately sent to the scene, supported by firefighters from Clarkston fire station.

"On arrival it became clear that due to the the location of the casualty, the SFRS specialist rope rescue team based at East Kilbride fire station would be required to gain access to the casualty. "Working in partnership with Scottish Ambulance Service colleagues who were tending to the injured person, the casualty was rescued by the SFRS using specialist equipment and brought back to the top of the cliff just after 4pm."

The man was taken to the new South Glasgow University Hospital for treatment. It was last night unclear whether or not he was in a stable condition.
