A GLASGOW MP has criticised the UK Government for not having details of the number of people who could be affected by a deportation policy.
Stewart McDonald, Glasgow South SNP MP, asked the Home Office for the number of non EU migrants in his constituency who earned less than the £35,000 that would allow them to remain in the country.
He said the Home Office replied stating it did not hold the information requested.
Mr McDonald said: “This is not good enough. Although I will make the political argument against this short sighted policy, the government must furnish MPs and the public with an honest and transparent assessment of its likely impact.”
Mr McDonald said the government planned to press ahead with plans to remove people from outwith the EU if they earned below the £35,000 a year threshold.
He said he wanted to know how many in his year were affected to understand the impact it would have on the community and the city.
