Five pet birds were rescued by an animal charity after it is thought they escaped from their homes because of the recent warm weather.

The Scottish SPCA has rescued four canaries and a parakeet from various locations across the region.

Glasgow Times:

The birds are now being cared for at the Scottish SPCA's Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Cardonald.

Centre manager Anna O'Donnell said, "We think these birds may have escaped through windows or doors left open due to the heat we've been enjoying.

Glasgow Times:

"Our little orange canary was discovered in Scotstoun and our brown coloured canary was rescued from the Croftfoot area.

"We are also looking after two yellow canaries who were found together in Victoria Park.

"Lastly, we have a stunning green and red kakariki parakeet who was spotted in Baillieston.

Glasgow Times:

"If anyone recognises any of these birds or has any information we would ask them to call our centre on 03000 999 999."
