THIS week the Evening Times launches a new series following graduate students who are embarking on the hunt for work.

In January, we introduced the online blog Bloody Students celebrating the unique relationship between the ET and Glasgow Caledonian University.

It allows journalism students to gain real work experience in the live newsroom and on the road.

Over the months, Bloody Students has covered a range of events in the lives of the young people.

Four of them have now graduated and the new blog, which launches tomorrow, is the natural spin off to keep up with their new lives.

The first of the new series will be written by Ryan Bounagui, who has just returned from a trip of a lifetime working as a journalist at the inaugural European Games in Baku.

Ryan, 21, from Denniston, graduated last week after four years at GCU.

He has a two week placement with a London based newspaper but plans to return to Glasgow to hunt for work.

Ryan said of the new blog: "I would like to give an account of what graduate life is like and the big part of that is looking for a job.

"At university we were in a kind of bubble and the years absolutely flew by. In the new blog I will be talking about the differences between student life and life after graduation. I am very much looking forward to it.

"A lot of people in my position who have just graduated are a bit anxious about what is going to happen but I am relishing the opportunities."

Evening Times editor Tony Carlin said: “Our new blog will give readers a chance to follow four new graduates as they fight to establish themselves in the world of work.

“Following their highs and lows will give us an insight into what young people face to get on the bottom rung of what will hopefully be a long and successful career.”

Charles Fletcher, project manager of the ET-GCU programme, said: "Combining the blogs and the real experience in the newsroom gives the students a unique insight into journalism. They learn much and have to learn it fast.

"The project has already identified exceptional talent and we will continue to nurture it."
