DRIVERS were today warned to expect delays into Glasgow due to ongoing roadworks at Polmadie.
The works, which have seen both carriageways reduced to two lanes, caused slow traffic during the morning rush hour.
A spokesman for Traffic Scotland said the delays were reported on the stretch heading into the city.
The roadworks, which began on April 20 at junction 1A and are scheduled to last until mid July, were described as "substantial" by Traffic Scotland.
The spokesman said the two lane reduction would remain in force on the northbound carriageway over the next few weeks following further investigation. It had been increased to three lanes during weekdays but, since July 3, the two lane reduction has remained in place.
The work is being carried out by contractor Interlink M74 JV.
In addition to the lane restrictions, the southbound ramp onto the motorway is closed, with diversions signposted towards Junction 2, Cambuslang Road.
A spokesman for Interlink M74 JV said: “We are working with Transport Scotland to endeavour to minimise the delays to the travelling public whilst we carry out these essential remedial works.”
Drivers are advised to visit the Traffic Scotland website ahead of their journey to get the latest information at www.trafficscotland.org.
