Edinburgh Zoo has released CCTV footage that shows even giant pandas can be scared by things that go bump in the night.

Male panda Yang Guang got a fright while swinging in his hammock when a stick of bamboo toppled over and hit him.

However, the giant panda quickly got over his fright and went back to lounging on his hammock.

Alison Maclean, Team Leader for Giant Pandas and Carnivores, said: "Yang Guang is normally a very peaceful and calm animal, who loves sleeping and eating. He had quite a fright though when a stick of bamboo he'd forgotten he'd put aside for later fell and broke the silence! Our bear quickly recovered though and happily went back to lazing about and giving himself a good scratch."
