THE funeral of a Scottish couple who were killed in the Tunisia beach massacre will take place on Friday.

Mourners will gather at the service for Jim and Ann McQuire, from Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, at Abronhill Church at 2pm.

Mr McQuire, 67, and his wife, 64 were described by Rev Joyce Keyes as a "kind and gentle couple".

They were both heavily involved with the Church of Scotland at Abronhill.

The couple was among the 38 people - including 30 Britons - shot dead by 23-year-old student Seifeddine Rezgui at the beach resort of Sousse on Friday June 26.

Hundreds of people attended a memorial service for the couple held last Friday at the church.

Linda Gray, Abronhill church's Session Clerk, said: "There were lots of people there and we were happy to be together to share our prayers with the community.

"We would like to thank everyone who came and also the very many people –some we knew and some we did not know—who sent messages of love and support. It was very kind."

She added they'd been comforted by the support received from other churches in Cumbernauld.

Books of condolence were opened by North Lanarkshire Council at sites across the area in memory of Mr and Mrs McQuire.
