PLANNERS will next month be asked to give the go-head to a £200million new village in North Lanarkshire.

The 1040 homes which would make up Glenboig Village will support 2500 construction jobs and provide a £1billion boost to the local economy.

Hamilton based Banks Property first submitted plans for the development in August last year after working closely with community groups in the area.

The scheme has resulted in 119 letters of support and just two objections.

Colin Anderson, director at Banks Property said: "We firmly believe in working with the communities that host our developments to help shape our proposals.

"This ensures they are designed to offer the best possible benefits to the local economy as well as being sympathetic to the existing environment.

"This development can begin to transform an area which has seen little investment in recent years.

"We will use local contractors wherever possible to maximise the boost to the local economy, while the link road will improve accessibility and is sure to attract further investment into Glenboig and the surrounding area.

"With our headquarters in Hamilton and several projects in the area, this is very much our own back yard.

"We are passionate about making a difference and hope our plans are approved so we can make this a reality."

As well as the new homes, local people will also benefit from improved transport networks with the introduction of a new link road connnecting Glenboig directly to Gartcosh business park, the local train station and the M73.

Glenboig resident Susan Lawless said she had written in support of the new housing as there are a number of community aspects which she likes.

She said: "The new link road in particular will make a huge difference for local people, especially those commuting to work as they can get straight onto the motorway and won't be hit by the current bottleneck."
