SOME of the biggest names in British gymnastics will appear at a special family event to mark 100 days until the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships.

Championships ambassadors Beth Tweddle and Louis Smith will be joined by Max Whitlock at the event in Princes Square Shopping Centre on Thursday July 16.

Triple world champion Beth Tweddle is Britain's most successful female gymnast having also bronze at the London 2012 Olympic Games, six European Championships gold medals and gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Louis Smith's medal haul includes a silver and bronze at London 2012, silver at the World Championships, gold and bronze at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and two European Championship gold medals.

Max Whitlock is the new golden boy of British gymnastics having won three gold medals at Glasgow 2014, to add to his two Olympic bronze medals, two World Championship silver medals and three golds at European Championships level.

All three will be at the 100 Days To Go free event in Princes Square where they will meet fans and pass on tips to young gymnasts from clubs across Scotland.

It will include come and try sessions, demonstrations from local gymnastics clubs and special performances from the YDance group.

City council leader Gordon Matheson said: "Excitement is building ahead of the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships - one of the biggest sporting events to be held anywhere in the world this year.

"The 100 Days To Go event will give the public the chance to get up close with gymnastics royalty and give them a taste of what they can expect from Glasgow's World Gymnastics Championships."
