A DISTRAUGHT family have plastered Glasgow with more than 25,000 posters in a bid to find their missing dad.

John Murphy, from Dennistoun, vanished nine weeks ago and has not been seen since.

And today his devastated wife is marking the couple's 20th wedding anniversary without her loving husband.

Since dad-of-five John, 52, vanished, a massive search aided by dozens of locals across Glasgow, has failed to find any trace of him.

However, his family remain hopeful of finding the devoted dad.

Wife Trisha said: "It's our 20th wedding anniversary and I don't know if I will cope not spending it with John."

The highly-visible missing poster campaign, organised by family and friends, has seen information plastered on public transport, bus stops, lamp posts and shop windows across the city.

John's distraught son, also John, has been leading the search and vowed to do everything possible to bring his dad home.

He said: "Dad, if you're reading this, we don't care why you had to get away, if that's what has happened.

"We all want to come home, even get in contact with anyone to let us know you are safe.

"We have had at least 25,000 posters printed and there are displayed across Glasgow, including on buses.

"Some people have also been making their own posters and they have been posted as far North as Inverness and as far South as London.

"The posters have been put in lots of UK tourist hotspots.

"We're still organising searches and have put his picture on the side of a van.

"He has to be out there somewhere."

John went missing on his way to work in Easterhouse, on Tuesday May 12.

He was last seen by his family at their home in Craigpark Drive before he went to bed the night before.

He is believed to have left his home early on May 12, and was thought to be heading to Easthall Park Housing Cooperative.

However, he never arrived at work and his family raised the alarm later that evening when he failed to return home.

When he left his home, he is believed to have been wearing a beige T-shirt, embroidered with Easthall Park's logo, a black jacket, black cargo trousers and black boots.

CCTV images showed John entering a local shop in Duke Street at about 7am on Tuesday May 12.

A few minutes later he emerged with a paper and appeared to be heading to get the bus to work.

However he then disappears from view and it is unclear which direction he walks in next.

Chief Inspector David Pettigrew, area commander, said: "We're continuing our enquiries into John's disappearance.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to ask the local communities of the East End to get in touch with us if you have any information which could help with our enquiry.

"John's family and friends are distraught at his disappearance, which is being felt so keenly within the community."

Last week, police investigating a possible sighting released CCTV images of a man visiting a Lidl supermarket who may be John Murphy.

Due to the camera position, however, police are unable to be certain if the man in the images is Mr Murphy.

They are trying to identify the man in the picture and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

The image was taken shortly before 3.20pm on June 13 within the branch of Lidl in Duke Street.
